Wilderness Pools was born out of a simple frustration — and a higher standard.

Our roots go back to 1980, when my father, Jay Neathery, started J.W. Neathery to build custom homes for discerning clients who expected quality, professionalism, and a well-managed experience. From the beginning, our philosophy was clear: a well-built home means nothing if the process leaves the client frustrated or uncertain.

As our custom home projects evolved, one challenge became impossible to ignore — finding a pool builder who approached their work with the same level of care, technical understanding, and client guidance that we brought to home construction.

Too often, pool companies treated projects as isolated installs rather than integral parts of the home and property. Even more concerning, the client experience was frequently disorganized, unclear, and reactive — the opposite of what our clients expected.

The Missing Piece

In our home building business, we manage projects closely and walk clients through every step of the process. We believe clarity, communication, and accountability are just as important as craftsmanship.

We struggled to find a pool builder who shared that mindset — until we met Trey Majors.

Trey’s company approached pool construction the way we approached homebuilding:

We began using Trey exclusively whenever our home clients wanted a pool — because we trusted the work and, just as importantly, trusted how our clients were treated throughout the process.

The Beginning of Wilderness Pools

Eventually, Trey came to me with a question that changed everything: “Have you ever thought about starting a pool company?”

He proposed creating a new pool company with our help — one built on the same principles that had guided our homebuilding business for decades.

That conversation marked the beginning of Wilderness Pools.

From day one, the goal was never to build the most pools — it was to build the right pools, for the right clients, with the same level of professionalism expected in high-end custom home construction. Our goal is to work alongside clients and builders, not against them.

Our Philosophy

We believe a luxury pool should:

• Be managed with clarity, intention, and accountability
  
• Feel calm and controlled throughout the entire process

That philosophy naturally led us to specialize in larger, more complex projects — including slot edge pools, infinity edges, and custom designs that require experience and precision.

Hands-On by Design

Wilderness Pools is intentionally family-owned and personally involved.

We take on a limited number of projects each year so we can remain closely engaged — from the first conversation through design and construction. Our clients are not handed off, and their projects are never treated as routine.

This hands-on approach isn’t a marketing decision. It’s the only way we know how to work.
